The Glass Family began in the winter of 2001 as a two-piece at a house party. Three years and five line-up changes later, founding members Tony Daugherty (drums) and Michael Winningham (lead vocals and guitar) truly found a family of likeminded collaborators in Frank Alexander (keys), Jeremy Gomez (bass), and Brian Hubbard (guitar).

Self-described “regular guys,” The Glass Family really is a down-to-earth group of people--Michael is a carpenter by day, Tony installs aquatic landscapes, Brain is a barista, Jeremy designs websites and engineers software, and Frank just got his PhD in neuro-biology--we wouldn’t think to call them “regular,” but they are something of a microcosm of Austin itself.

Without question, their combined effort as The Glass Family is truely extraodinary, earning them the ardent respect of Austinites, and supporting shows with artists like Okkervil River, Earlimart, The Decemberists, Sound Team, Zykos, and I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness.

The Glass Family’s debut, Sleep Inside This Wheel, is a showcase of brilliantly subtle and well-crafted pop that explodes into epic orchestral compositions. Complete with twinkling keys, horns, and catchy hooks. Sleep Inside This Wheel was released on i eat records in January 2006 and quickly embraced by critics and fans alike, debuting on the CMJ 200 radio chart at #76, and Dusted Magazine's college radio chart at #28.

The Glass Family tour nationally in March and April, along with a showcase at SXSW. Their live show is as extraordinary as their album, so be sure not to miss out. TOUR DATES HERE.

“Austin’s best songwriting rock group..... [The Glass Family] weaves distinct and generally simple beats, riffs and hooks into a layered, sonic tapestry that’s almost orchestral in nature.”
- Dave Dierkson, Pop Matters

“...[a] marriage of R.E.M., Wilco, and Elliott Smith...coaxing vocals meld with keys, triumphant guitars, and steady drums, eventually exploding into a carefully melodic orchestration.”
- Darcie Stevens, The Austin Chronicle

“Employing a nonlinear pop sophistication
probably weaned from Shins CDs, the band
puts substance and surprise behind its sound, and vocalist Michael Winningham, hanging at the top end of his register, commands a sense of menace that makes the band’s debut seem even more compelling.”
- Jeff McCord, Texas Monthly

“Bittersweet and epic in the best sense of the word, the graceful ease of the playing is more befitting of a band three or four albums into their career...The Glass Family create a platform of densely interlocking instrumentation and let the soaring melodies do the rest.”
- Jon Higton, AngryApe

“A standout among SXSW bands...the group puts across a moody vibe with singable choruses.”
- Andrew Dansby, The Houston Chronicle
